The AQ8828 is a high-performance ISO/OSI Layer2/4 Ipv4/Ipv6 aware Ethernet switching controller, providing twenty-four 10/100Mbps Fast Ethernet ports and four 10/100/1000M Gigabit Ethernet portswith wire-speed switching capability.

AQ8828 provides advanced Ethernet switching and network management functions, which make it suitable for any high-end enterprise and service provider Ethernet applications. It supports layer-2 frames switching, layer-4 multi-fields classification, ACL applications. Also supports standard Spanning Tree Protocol operation, port-based virtual LAN by IEEE 802.1Q, four priorities queues per port, link aggregation and all network management supports as well as more recent standards such as protocol based VLAN and per-VLAN spanning tree. It also provides functions for special applications such as port bandwidth limiting, address filtering, secure address mode, jumbo packet forwarding, etc., enabling most wide applications possible.

 AQ8828 offers support for efficient implementation for high-port count switch. 48-port configuration can be achieved by back-to-back connection with two ports of each connected AQ8828. Data interface bandwidth can be as high as 2.0Gbps. Management commands between two AQ8828s are transferred by one high-speed serial bus.

 AQ8828 provides the most economical solution. All packet buffer memories and address tables required for switching are embeded and no external component is needed. A 32-bit CPU with instruction and data cache and all needed peripherals are embedded. A full management switch system can be built with only the flash memory, dynamic program memory and PHY devices.
