ISO 9001 改版將會延遲到2009 年。
ISO 9001 原計劃於2008 年改版，但在愛爾蘭的起草委員會議中因未獲得足夠的支援而被迫暫緩，在三月公佈的草案版(CD)1 已經發表，其中有24 個的可能改變項目。QSU 報告指出委員會團體審查了約80 頁預備改變的建議，連同29 頁與ISO 9004 改版的相關建議，其中ISO 9004 是為了協助企業超過ISO 9001 最低要求門檻而設計的，改變內容主要為對ISO 9001 條文要求的明瞭、輕鬆使用、轉換性，以及加上對ISO 14001 的相容等。
2009 年版是目前規劃的目標，不會有2010 年版。由於在ISO 9000 1994 年版轉換 2000 年版過程曾引發眾多負面回響，為了不 重蹈複轍，新版ISO 9001 文件上將只有微小的說明，並不會有大地震般的徹底大改變（例如：以品質管理系統為基礎的流程）。
2009 年版之後，ISO 9001 目標於2014 年進行第五版改版。

ISO 9001 Update Delayed

The release of an updated version of ISO 9001 has been delayed until the middle of 2009.
The update was scheduled for release in 2008, but a failure to obtain sufficient support for a draft of the standard at a meeting recently held in Ireland has pushed it back, reports Quality Systems Update. The initial working draft was released in March and includes 24 possible changes.
QSU reports that group members reviewed about 80 pages of comments on the proposed changes, along with another 29 pages of comments for an updated version of ISO 9004. The latter is being designed to help companies exceed the minimum requirements of ISO 9001. The changes are reportedly aimed at improving ISO 9001's clarity, ease of use and translatability, in addition to increasing its compatibility with ISO 14001.
There will be no 2010 revision. 2009 is now the target date for the amendment to be released. Based on the design specification (already posted), the next Edition of ISO 9001 should only bring MINOR clarifications to the document. No earth-shattering, ground breaking ( e.g. process based QMS), radical changes. TC 176 learned (?) a lesson with the response to the changes in 2000. Worldwide procrastination by certified organizations to make the move from the 1994 to the 2000 Edition. A lot of negative feedback. Could it be simply resistance to change? They really don't want to rock the ISO9000 boat twice in a row....
After the 2009 Edition, 2014 is the likely target for the 5th Edition of ISO 9001.
